The Man Who Saved Christmas
A festive short story from Steve McCarthy.
Ben Harper is working the complaints line on Christmas Eve, soaked in other people’s panic and carrying too much of his own—money worries, overtime, and a little boy depending on him. When a stranger hands him a battered snow globe and he mutters the one dangerous wish in his head—I wish Christmas didn’t happen this year—Ben wakes to a world where Christmas has never existed: no songs, no lights, no shared permission to be kinder, and no memories he never realised were holding him together. To bring it back, Ben will have to face what he’s been avoiding, make things right where it matters most, and discover that saving Christmas isn’t about tinsel or presents… it’s about showing up.
